Big increase in number of KWR publications
In 2013, KWR publishes a record number of articles: 85 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and 87 articles in trade publications. In line with this, the number of times publications by KWR researchers are cited by others in scientific journals also increases sharply: 1,724 citations in 2013.
KWR’s Chief Science Officer Gertjan Medema says that “the increase in our scientific publications has a number of explanations. To begin with, we’ve had many doctoral students working at KWR over the past few years, and they’ve published articles connected to their dissertation work. In addition, KWR is associated with five Dutch universities, which also leads to a significant number of publications. And, lastly, the internationalisation of our project portfolio means that our researchers are increasingly publishing jointly with researchers from institutions abroad.”
Large number of reports
Besides the articles, KWR also produces a large number of reports every year: 143 in 2013. “In early 2013,” says Medema, “we concluded the previous BTO programme – the water sector research programme for the water companies – and inaugurated the new one. At that time many research projects were completed and many reports produced. But we also prepare reports for scores of other clients outside of the BTO programme. And we naturally collaborate on the reports of others. One interesting development is that projects today regularly result in a website rather than a report. In this way we extend the dissemination of knowledge.”
